The Ultimate Showdown

"Probably 1 the catchiest & funniest videos around!"

date: February 24, 2008

Graphics - Pretty cartoony, but I liked it. It was not meant to be professional. However some of the characters were drawn pretty well, such as Chuck Norrisand Samuel L Jackson.

Style - Music video, which follows of the lyrics of the song. It is pretty funny to see all the lyrics of this crazy song come to live. It is pretty funny. It just seems that a bunch of pop icons going for a big fight to death, which is surreal but funny.

Sound - Clear as a bell and very very catchy song. Will be watching it again

Violence - There is a lot of violence, which seems to be cartoony, with pows and such. However there are some aspects of blood gushing out, especially the ending.

Humor - A pretty funny song with a funny video to go with it. It was just to see how many pop culture references can one spot in one go.

I can totally see why this video was one of the greatest of Newgroudns.

Blockhead: Episode 2

""Now Snack Time For My Face Mouth""

date: February 24, 2008

Graphics - Simple but effective. Nothing too amazing from the graphics. Just simple cartoon figures

Style - Like the previous Blockhead episode, it consists of two main characters, Blockhead and Conscience. There were some extras to make the story move along such as the blind deaf old lady and the German UPS Man. But it does break from the two camera rule, and instead makes Blockhead venture out more to meet other characters.

Sound - Like I have mentioned before, catchy ass soundtrack.

Humour - Stupid humor and maybe bizarre. It can be seen that Blockhead is not an idiot, but actually mentally retarded, since he cannot mistake simple objects for pieces of food. However that does not make it funny. I did like the part where he took his package from the postal guy and when he guides the old lady across the road.

It is a cute dumb cartoon, which is always a pleasure to watch.

Crayon Parade

"Bizarre Short about Crayons."

submission: Crayon Parade
date: February 24, 2008

Now there is not a great deal to say about crayons, apart from they are waxy and they are used to color in paper and draw and what not. So this is not going to be a witty introduction

Graphics - Very sketchy and basic cartoon based. Still enjoyable though. Pretty simple

Style - Liked the beginning of the short, where it was presented as a old movie or PSA . But other than that, it was very much a basic cartoon.

Sound - No actual sound but a catchy old 20's music, which got me tapping my feet like doing a Charleston, 23 skiddoo.

Violence - There was one moment of violence. When one the crayons wedges himself into the little child's eye, which I found to be unnecessary, especially when the other violence was amongst "inanimate" objects. Liked how the blue crayon died though.

Humour - Meh. It was not all that funny, but it made me smile a little bit.

All in all 6 out of 10.

The Argyle Pimps: Geezers

"Argyle Pimpin with old people"

date: December 8, 2006

Before I watched this flash animation, I had never heard of this band. However after watching this flash animation, I love the band's sound and I love one of their songs called "Argyle Pimping". So I wanna thank you directly for somehow inadverently introducing me to this band. I will be buying their album soon enough. Ok enough of me gushing, and onto the actual review

Graphics. It was pretty fucking good, especially drawings of famous old folk, like that lady from Murder She Wrote, and other geriatics on TV. Also I loved that you put Ben Stiller's characther from Happy Gilmore. That was a good touch to it to be honest.

Style. I liked the concept, though I dont think that this music video would have been set anywhere else, apart from a nursing home. It was basically following the lyrics of the song, but I like the little gruesome twist at the end, with the zombies devouring the little old lady.

Sound. Great sound. Basically it was the song Geezers, and it was crystal clear, which was great. Love the start with a clip from Frank Sinatra. It sets up the song just right to be honest.

Violence. Well compared to your previous work of Ugly Duckling "Left Behind", there is a lot of violence in this flash, but not serious violence. That does not make much sense, but I hope you can get that. There is tormenting and taunting of old people as well as the end scene, where zombies of famous people just recreate the Dawn of the Dead eating scene.

Humour. Funny to a T man. Just basically silly and slapsticky, though somehow a bit too cruel, but you are basically it on the song, so it is understandable. Once again, my face was smiling when I saw the Happy Gilmore character.

Keep up the good work Kenn with 2 N's and tell me whether you will be making more flash and such.

Blockhead: Episode 1

"No! Stop It, Stupid!"

date: September 29, 2006

Graphics - Simplistic but very effective. Like the concept of Blockhead being just a smile face. Love that Conscience is a fat surly guy who sits on a sofa chair and being angry.

Style - Once again, simple but effective. It is designed to be a two camera cartoon, whereby each camera is dedicated to the character. Also liked the concept that Blockhead is talking directly to the camera when he talks to Conscience. Reminds me of a smiple sitcom.

Sound - Clear to hear and sounds effects were pretty good. Catchy soundtrack.

Violence - None whatsoever. A bit of self inflicted violence by Blockhead, when he whacks his head on the sofa arm, but that is due to stupidity.

Interactivity - Apart from the play sign, no interactivity at all

Humor - Pretty simple stuff. Blockhead and Conscience is that usual double act. The funny guy and the straight guy. Blockhead is just a stupid stupid man, whereas Conscience is being normal, even though he is in Blockhead's mind.

Like it, but I think it will grow on me soon after I watch more episodes.

Geeks In Love

"Got to love Geeks In Love"

submission: Geeks In Love
date: September 27, 2006

Graphics - It looks professional and done really well. It is not cutting edge and have 3d animation, well not that I could see. I love the drawings of the sci fi characters, like Spock, and Dr Brown to name a few.

Style - Good concept. Camera panning on the wall to show the two geeks concept of love and their geekiness. Also I like the pop references. Just thought it was amazing

Sound - Crystal clear sound. Very very catchy song. Makes me wanna be in love, a geek or both geek in love. In fact I am a geek.

Violence - None watsoever. This is Geeks in Love not Geeks gonna kill each other.

Humour - No great scenes of guffaw. There were clever moments, such as the censored scene. But the rest were spot the pop reference.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cartoon. Thought it was pretty good.

Left Behind

"A very good music video to the best band around."

submission: Left Behind
date: September 27, 2006

Being a huge fan of UD, I found it quite surprising that someone has made a flash music video of the band. From what I have experienced, it is very hard to find anyone who has heard of Ugly Duckling, let alone express themselves on Flash media one of their songs. So I tip my hat to you for having a good music taste.

However it is best now to actually review your music video "Left Behind".

Graphics - Thought it was pretty good, but not wholly amazing. The likeness of the trio were pretty much like themselves in a way. I am not sure about Dizzy's shirt, but that is due to my music indifference to Black Eyed Peas. (I am assuming that is what it represents)

Style - I like the concept that the guys are walking down the street and experiencing their lyrics as they pound the asphalt. It was pretty good on that aspect.

Sound - The sounds was pretty crystal clear. Since I have heard of the band and love what they play, I am pretty biased on my ratings for this.

Violence - None watsoever, unless you want to mention about the production of a bomb by Dizzy Dustin and an altercation with Dizzy Dustin and unknown dude. But that is part of the lyrics and if one listens to it, it does not represent any kind of violence.

Interactivity - There is no interactivity apart from the play button. That is why I am giving you the rating one.

Humor - It is not exactly funny, but there were nodding of approval moments.

In conclusion, I liked it alot and I think you have a future in the world of Flash making. Hope you make more music videos of UD. If you take requests, can I recommend Yudee!, Slow The Flow (I know they have a music video of that), Potty Mouth, Turn It Up, Mr Tough Guy and A Little Samba.

Looking forward to your next installment of Flash.

Author's Response:

Thanks for the detailed feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed the clip.

A few clarifications:

The t-shirt Dizzy is wearing has a Blown Celeb logo on it. That's a side project of his, with his friend Swiss Precise...

The "unknown dude" is Heavy D. - Google him.

My first music video Flash, UD's "La Revolucion" was purely an expression of my admiration for their music. This one, though, was pretty much made at their request.

A still from the animation has now also been used for the cover art on the 12" single of a "Left Behind" remix (Japan-only release)...

I won't be making any more UD Flash clips. At least not until their next album, if in fact they're interested in having me make one.

I do these music videos freelance, as a supplementary source of income. Please check out the rest of my work here on Newgrounds.

Once again, thanks for taking the time to write such a comprehensive review!

Ask Al: "Cold Noses"

"Kinda reminds me of a neurotic bird"

date: September 27, 2006

Like the concept of it. Asking questions to a bird, but not an owl, since that would be obvious. Instead of an owl, it is a pigeon. However this pigeon does not really know the answer and makes any old crap up and insults the asker of the questions. The bird just reminded me of a bad Woody Allen impression in a way, but I thought it was ok. I will give the maker a small cookie and hopes he makes a lot more.

Banana Phone

""Sometimes You Try Too Hard""

submission: Banana Phone
date: December 13, 2005

I like the story with this. A guy just keeps on hearing the most catchy but annoying Banana Song, but his flatmates cant hear the song at all. It causes him to go mad and then he dies. But then the banana song is now caught onto the other flatmates. Ends violently. Brillant movie. Banana cookies for you my friend.
